Are you on Nostr?
Nostrcoin runs entirely on Nostr — a decentralized protocol. Every transaction, every mined block, is a Nostr event. So, you need a Nostr account. Joining Nostr takes only seconds and zero personal information is collected. Your account will both "get you on Nostr" and serve as your Nostrcoin wallet address.

📖 What is Nostrcoin?
Nostrcoin (NSTC) is an experimental, educational cryptocurrency built entirely on the Nostr protocol. Instead of a traditional blockchain, every mined block and every transfer is a public Nostr event — anyone can independently validate the full history.
It uses proof-of-work mining: every 10-minute epoch, the first valid event with the right hash difficulty wins a block reward of 50 NSTC. Rewards halve every 210,000 blocks, similar to Bitcoin, with a max supply of 21,000,000 NSTC.
This project has zero monetary value and is meant purely to explore what's possible when you build a currency-like system on top of a decentralized social protocol.

🎁 Get your first NSTC
Two ways to receive NSTC for free:
Option A — Faucet (forum)
Post your npub in the faucet thread on the forum and Saccoci will send you some NSTC. You can post anonymously. Just say something like, "I'd like some Nostrcoin," or "Give me some NSTC, please," or "nok me!" Be sure to include your npub... (your Nostrcoin address).
Option B — Reach out to Saccoci directly
Create a note or mention (on Nostr or X) and ping Saccoci. Or, send a DM or email to Saccoci. Contact info is on the bottom of this page. Be sure to include your npub.

Once you've received NSTC, open the Wallet and check your balance. Logging in with a Nostr extension is the best practice, but you can also log in using your nsec.

⛏️ Start Mining NSTC
Mining can be done in your wallet, right in your browser. Here's how:
- Open the Wallet at saccoci.github.io/wallet
- Login to Nostr — tap "Connect Extension" and approve the request (or, alternately, enter your nsec to login)
- Scroll down and choose the Mining tab — you'll see a Start Mining button
- Optionally set a message — this gets embedded in your mined block (like a coinbase message in Bitcoin)
- Tap Start Mining — your browser will start hashing. Each 10-minute epoch, only one miner wins the block reward of 50 NSTC
- When a block is found — it's broadcast to Nostr relays automatically. Your balance updates at the next epoch (~10 min)
- Next level mining — Congratulations on mining your first block! To really mine, you want an "always on" miner. See the README file or visit the forum for details.
💡 Tips
Keep the wallet tab open and active while mining — browsers throttle background tabs. The miner stops automatically at epoch boundaries and restarts fresh each epoch. Check the Explorer to see if your block was validated.
